Chance Eau Splendide from Chanel: Why Are We Loving It This Summer?

Written by Kristina Kybartaite-Damule

Just before summer began, Chanel released a new flanker of the legendary Chance – Chance Eau Splendide. A sparkling fruity scent, a bright purple color, playful ads featuring Belgian singer Angèle – it all contributed to the perfume quickly becoming the next TikTok hit. But why does this flanker seem to be the IT perfume of the season?

I must admit, I caved to the hype and recently added Chance Eau Splendide to my collection. Ever since its release in April, I kept spraying it on my wrist whenever I passed through the airport or visited a department store. While I didn’t find the perfume groundbreaking, each time I tested it, I couldn't stop sniffing my wrist – it just smelled so addictive. It evoked easy, carefree summer vibes and simply made me feel good. The scent awakened the girly-girl part of me.

Created by Chanel’s in-house perfumer Olivier Polge, this new Chance taps right into the fruity perfume trend with a vivid opening of raspberry. It’s not overly sweet or jammy – more like a freshly picked raspberry, nestled in a garden of roses in full bloom. For a moment, it reminds me of my grandmother’s summer garden, where strawberries, raspberries, and cherries grew alongside roses, lilies, and a lot of other flowers. That place was a summer paradise.

The sparkling raspberry, after just a wink on the skin, is joined by a bouquet of florals. Violet brings a classic, slightly vintage vibe (though overall I find the perfume quite modern), iris adds a powdery, feminine softness, and geranium leaf breathes in a fresh green lightness. I think it’s this airy freshness that makes the perfume wear so beautifully on hot summer days.

Then, soft musks appear. They feel clean and gentle, never overpowering the floral heart – just enough to hold the scent together.

As I mentioned, this fragrance doesn’t reinvent the wheel or wow with a complex or unexpected composition. Just looking at the notes, it might seem simple, even unexciting. But in reality, it smells incredibly pleasant and likable.

It doesn't go full "beast mode" or project wildly, but Chance Eau Splendide is in the right place when the trend of clean, more intimate scents is growing. It lays beautifully on clothes and creates an effortless, carefree, yet put-together aura. And maybe that’s exactly what we need in summer.
