Fruity perfumes don’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon – among the latest releases from the past few months, there’s a notable wave of optimistic, bright, sweet, and playful fragrances. Vesper Reverie joins the fruity perfume club; however, it still manages to smell unique and unlike anything else on the market, at least that I know of.

It features notes of mango, blackcurrant, and peach – and while they’re popular lately, the intrigue begins from the very first spray.

I had a chance to try it during TFWA in Cannes, just before the official launch, and my first impression was: wow, so minty! However, there’s no mint in the formula – it might be an illusion created by the star anise and green tea. Interestingly, I experienced that “minty” sensation a few more times while testing the perfume later on, but the more I wore it, the more that freshness faded away. Now, I don’t detect any minty brightness at all, even in the opening. I can’t quite explain it, except that my own nose might be playing tricks on me.

But let’s leave that mysterious mint behind – the perfume develops quickly on the skin, revealing a bouquet of flowers such as champaca, hibiscus, magnolia, and jasmine. Combined with the aforementioned fruits, it creates a lovely, effortless, almost tropical holiday vibe. Yet stay with me, because the composition goes deeper and deeper, as warm amber, leather, and dark oud emerge.

This twist gives the perfume real depth – an unexpected weight and complexity that feels almost cinematic. The once-bright and juicy composition takes a darker turn, revealing layers of musk and dark woods. The transition is smooth yet striking. Sugar cane and vanilla then emerge like soft moonlight, gently rounding the edges of the darker notes, softening the intensity, and lending a touch of sensuality to the base.

Created by perfumer Arturetto Landi, this perfume is meant to mirror the intense twilight – when fruits and flowers melt into dusk. As the brand explains in the press release, “As with all Electimuss fragrances, the inspiration falls to ancient Rome, this time the Villa of Livia with its secret garden adorned with panoramic frescoes of flowers, fauna and flora that bloom eternally. A reverie born of ancient beauty, wrapped in night’s soft mystery.” The contrast in this scent between juicy, sweet fruits and deep, dark woods and oud paints a vivid picture, and it makes perfect sense.

With this new release, Electimuss continues to pursue its goal of crafting strong, long-lasting, and impressive fragrances. Vesper Reverie has all of these qualities. That said, it’s not a safe blind buy (though no perfume really is). Some might find the heavy base overwhelming, or the blend of tropical fruits and florals with dark notes too unfamiliar. However, if you enjoyed the brand’s previous launch, Astrum Nova – where mango also met oud, albeit in a very different way – I think you might enjoy this one just as much.
