Goldfield & Banks Mystic Bliss: A Unique Approach to Fall Coziness
Written by Kristina Kybartaite-Damule
The newest perfume from the Australian brand Goldfield & Banks sings an ode to the exceptional note of kunzea, and is unlike anything I have smelled before.
The bottle of the new Mystic Bliss instantly catches the eye: it's purple and sparkling, like the sky over Tasmania and southern Australia from May to September—when the Aurora Australis appears. “That partly inspired me to create the bottle with the sparkles,” said the brand’s founder, Dimitri Weber, in an interview with PlezuroMag.
It’s easy to get dreamy just by looking at those sparkles, but the scent created by perfumer Florian Gallo is just as fascinating—a truly unique woody, powdery chypre.
It opens fresh—with fig, cold cardamom, and a touch of mint. At first, you might think, "Oh, it’s a summer freshie!" But just as that thought crosses your mind, the scent begins to evolve in an entirely different direction.
A modest sweetness from blackcurrant and caramel emerges, balanced with the fruity greenness of geranium. Yet, it never becomes overly playful or light. It’s just a cozy hint, like the distant memory of a long-gone summer.
The longer it lingers on the skin, the woodier and earthier it becomes. Creamy sandalwood, dry cedarwood, and a generous dose of powdery orris root take over. It’s warming, cocooning, and suddenly no longer feels like a summer freshie. Instead, it’s the scent you want to wear on rainy, gloomy days, wrapped in a blanket and sipping tea. That’s exactly the scene as I write this review, and I can’t imagine a better fragrance for the moment.
When I think of fall scents, sweet, amber-heavy perfumes usually come to mind. But this offers a completely different approach to coziness.
Now, I’ve walked you through the elements of Mystic Bliss, but throughout the entire fragrance journey, there’s something exotic that makes it truly unique: Kunzea. Those familiar with Goldfield & Banks know that each of their fragrances incorporates a native Australian ingredient. In Mystic Bliss, it’s kunzea, spreading its fresh, sweet, aromatic scent.
Kunzea is a bush that blooms in September, but it’s the tiny leaves that release its distinctive aroma. Dimitri Weber shared that the essential oil is sourced from Flinders Island, a remote island with only 500 inhabitants near Tasmania. And while I may never visit, I now have a tiny glimpse of how it smells.
