Celebrating Diversity: Black Owned Fragrance Week is Around The Corner
Written by Ally Santos
In the world of perfumery, fragrance is often described as art you can wear—an interplay of creativity, emotion, and craft. Yet historically, Black voices have often been overlooked in the beauty industry, but not anymore. Black Owned Fragrance Week, now in its fourth year, taking place from February 1st to February 8th, 2025.

This vibrant initiative was founded by Glenn Davis—widely known as MrCologne76—whose formative experiences began on a farm in Trinidad. Sparked by a fascination he shared with his father, Glenn’s early passion for scent followed him when he moved to New York City at the age of seventeen.
Glenn’s journey as a fragrance influencer took flight in 2017, when he began exploring scents from around the globe, sharing his discoveries through a rapidly growing digital platform. Despite encountering a vast spectrum of perfumes, he noticed how seldom Black-owned fragrance brands were spotlighted. In 2021, propelled by a deep sense of purpose and a commitment to diversity, Glenn focused his platform on uplifting these perfumers. From that vision, Black Owned Fragrance Week was born—a movement that underscores representation, celebrates craftsmanship, and elevates excellence within the fragrance community.
The Inspiration Behind Black Owned Fragrance Week
Guided by the tagline “Unity in Scent, Strength in Action,” Black Owned Fragrance Week showcases visionary entrepreneurs and celebrates the artistry that infuses every bottle. The event fosters community by connecting creators, consumers, and industry experts, inviting participants to learn, share, and cultivate meaningful relationships. It also emphasizes education, shining a light on the cultural and historical significance of fragrance in the African diaspora and on the enduring impact of Black creativity in perfumery.
A Scented Revolution
Beyond digital outreach, Glenn envisions a physical gathering—a fragrance expo or convention—where the richness of Black-owned and minority-owned perfumes can be fully experienced. This event would unite creators, enthusiasts, and experts under one aromatic roof, solidifying these perfume houses as a formidable force in the broader industry. It reflects a story of resilience and creativity, revealing what unfolds when diverse perspectives converge in the world of scents. More than a movement, it is truly a scented revolution, one that dares to challenge norms, break barriers, and invite everyone to immerse themselves in the universal beauty of fragrance, no matter their background.
Through his platform and the collective passion of all who participate, Glenn demonstrates that content creation can serve a larger purpose: to spark meaningful change. By harnessing the power of scent to elevate Black perfumers, he and his collaborators are reshaping the entire industry. As we celebrate Black Owned Fragrance Week, we salute the diversity, richness, and creativity that these brands bring to the forefront. Each bottle tells a powerful story, each fragrance is a testament to resilience, and every note resonates with the potential for representation and inclusivity in the world of scents.
Why Representation Matters in Fragrance
Perfumery’s heritage spans continents and centuries, drawing on countless cultural influences. However, Black voices have long struggled to gain visibility. Dedicating a week to celebrate their achievements allows perfumers to share how they learned their craft—whether through formal training or self-discovery—and invites consumers to connect more deeply with each brand’s heritage and mission. This heightened exposure also paves the way for collaborative projects, investments, and expansions, helping to cultivate a more inclusive and dynamic fragrance industry.
Key Highlights of the Week
Throughout Black Owned Fragrance Week, Glenn and his collaborators host events designed to educate and inspire. Virtual Meet & Greets allow fragrance aficionados to engage directly with perfumers, exploring new releases and learning about their creative processes. Many participating brands take advantage of this spotlight to unveil special-edition scents or announce upcoming partnerships, creating excitement that resonates well beyond the event’s official dates.
