A Century of Scent: Carbonnel Celebrates 100 Years

Written by Ally Santos

On May 21st, fragrance industry insiders from around the world gathered in Barcelona to honor a monumental milestone: Carbonnel’s 100th anniversary. Hosted in the enchanting Espai Xavier Corberó, a surreal, museum-like venue blending Catalan architecture with sculptural whimsy, the event was as much a celebration of heritage as it was a look toward the future.

Chris Maurice, the perfumer who has helped shape many of Carbonnel’s most iconic creations, was the man of the hour. Dressed in a bold red suit, he welcomed guests with his signature warmth and charisma. The room was buzzing with perfumers, brand founders, creative directors, and fragrance enthusiasts, all gathered to pay tribute to one of Spain’s most respected fragrance houses.

One of the evening’s highlights was the unveiling of Carbonnel’s new logo. Sleek and contemporary, it marked a visual shift that reflects the house’s evolution from a family-run business to an international fragrance powerhouse.

Guests were also invited to experience a curated olfactive journey featuring five creative scent concepts. “Trio de Rosas” offered a modern interpretation of the classic bloom, while “Dirty Fougère” brought an herbaceous, textured, and slightly rebellious edge. “Pearl” captured a soft, luminous quality with a gentle elegance. “Gold Spot” felt rich and radiant, warm like sunlight on skin. And “Erba Sour” surprised the senses with its citrusy-green freshness, a vibrant contrast to the others.

To cap off the evening, each guest was gifted a numbered, limited-edition Xerjoff fragrance created exclusively for the celebration. With only a select number of bottles produced, it was a thoughtful keepsake and a collector’s dream.

Carbonnel’s 100-year legacy has always been about the people behind the scent—the creators, collaborators, and communities that have carried its vision forward. This night in Barcelona captured all of that and more: a heartfelt tribute, a stylish affair, and a bold step into the next chapter of perfumery.
