The Cardamom Edit: Spices, Stories, and Scents
Written by Kristina Kybartaite-Damule
Cardamom – a spice that has traveled centuries, from ancient markets in India to the ateliers of modern perfumers. As a perfume lover, this note has always had a special place in my heart.

Traditionally, I’ve reached for cardamom-heavy fragrances in the cold months, drawn to its warm, resinous aroma, its spicy bite softened by a slightly bitter aftertaste. Yet, to be completely fair, cardamom isn’t bound by seasons. Depending on how it’s composed, it can bloom bright and refreshing, carrying whispers of lemon, mint, or even eucalyptus, perfectly fitting in the warmth of spring or summer.
Here are a few of my favorite cardamom perfumes – each telling a story and revealing a different facet of this fascinating spice.
Atelier Des Ors Lune Féline

When I first encountered Lune Féline, I felt surprised in the best way. Cardamom here is ambery, warm, and gently caressing, wrapping around a smoky, understated vanilla that never tips into cloying sweetness. It’s a fragrance that balances comfort and intrigue: soft yet complex, like a cozy night by candlelight with the faint whisper of incense in the air. What makes it so captivating is its subtle storytelling of cardamom as a companion to vanilla, dancing in a smoky haze.
Xerjoff Starlight
Starlight immediately brings to mind sparkling nights during the winter holidays, but it would be unfair to confine it to one season. This perfume is spicy and slightly sweet, warm and almost mouthwatering, like entering the kitchen where the delicious cakes are being baked. The cardamom is alive, vibrant, and almost celebratory, wrapping around the perfume’s sweetness without ever losing its edge. It’s a scent that, while perfect for cold nights, can just as easily turn a warm evening into a moment of quiet luxury.
Le Persona LP04
In LP04, cardamom takes on a refreshing, almost chilly character. The scent is creamy and subtly smoky, blending effortlessly into a composition that is both cool and comforting. Here, cardamom doesn’t dominate – it lifts the fragrance, giving it an airy brightness that makes it wearable throughout the year. There’s something almost cinematic about it: like stepping to the fireplace, to warm your cold hands, where the scent of spice and the sweetness of melted marshmallows lingers in the air.
Genyum Tattoo Artist
Tattoo Artist is where cardamom becomes bittersweet poetry. Combined with lavender, saffron, and soft musks, it injects freshness into a fragrance that is otherwise deep and resonant. The cardamom is subtle yet unmistakable, giving the perfume a lift that feels almost like a gentle exhale of cool air in a smoky room. It’s a scent that tells a story of contrasts: bold yet delicate, spicy yet soothing, much like the work of a master tattoo artist leaving their mark – but this mark is in the memory.
