O by Pantheon Roma: The Final Letter of Rome

Written by Nina Hellström

Italian niche house Pantheon Roma has three fragrance collections: Classic, Special, and Exclusive. Rome serves as both the birthplace of perfumery and the spiritual heart of the house, which is why the fragrances in the Special collection are named after the letters that form the name of the city itself.

The releases have not followed alphabetical order, but rather a more symbolic progression. With the launch of O, the circle is finally complete, revealing the full name of the Eternal City. The house describes the fragrance as having neither a beginning nor an end, like that hole that overlooks the temple and I find that sentiment fitting not only for O, but for many fragrances in both the Special and Exclusive collections. Yet, this does not suggest simplicity in any way - quite the opposite.

O continues the house’s intense and passionate style with a luxurious, opulent composition that feels simultaneously vibrant, sophisticated, elegant, and utterly irresistible. Every note seems pushed to its fullest expression, and every synthetic accord is executed with remarkable precision. Fruit and berry notes have become something of a signature for the house, and they continue to surprise me every time - this fragrance is no exception.

Two notes in O reference alcoholic beverages: pink champagne in the opening and tequila in the heart. Traditional champagne often leans toward floral, citrus, and white-fruit nuances, while pink champagne immediately evokes the brightness of ripe red berries. Here, the champagne accord feels sparkling and acidic, capturing the effervescent sensation of bubbles rising to the nose with each sip. Pink pepper enhances this effect with its soft berry-like nuance and a vibrant, zesty lift.

Cherry and black cherry deepen the composition in pink champagne, adding sweetness, richness, and a darker sensuality. They merge beautifully with the tartness of stone fruit, creating a cherry note that feels remarkably realistic, refined, and multi-dimensional - far removed from the artificial, syrupy effect that cherry accords can sometimes produce. Dark, velvety rose petals weave into this juicy yet distinctly “adult” cherry accord, lending elegance, mystery, and a sense of enduring, unconventional romance.

Tequila might suggest sharp citrus facets - lemon, lime, grapefruit - or even the green, earthy sweetness of Agave. In reality, what it brings here is balance. It tempers the exuberance of the champagne accord and the lush sweetness of the cherry, ensuring the fragrance retains its polished and luxurious character. While Jasmine never fully steps into the spotlight, it quietly enriches the composition with additional depth, sensuality, and a subtle tropical warmth. The result is intensely addictive and highly memorable.

The base notes provide depth without turning overly dark or overtly creamy. Instead, O radiates a golden warmth from beginning to end. The texture is undeniably rich, yet its luminous character makes it feel lighter than it truly is. What I particularly appreciate is the use of vanilla in the dry down - it never becomes a predictable vanilla finale, but remains seamlessly woven into the composition. By that stage, the only thing missing is the sparkling effervescence that danced through the opening.

O is one of those rare fruity fragrances that feels neither childish nor overtly youthful, yet it is far from old-fashioned. It is playful, bright, and full of life, while also carrying a remarkable sense of sophistication and dignity. It possesses an almost magnetic sensuality - seductive, but never vulgar. Its texture is dense and nearly opaque without becoming overwhelming. It’s weet, but never cloying. It captivates both the wearer and those around them, leaving behind a trail that invites pursuit.

Ultimately, O feels like a perfectly fitting final chapter for Pantheon Roma’s Special collection - one that brings together the house’s most recognizable signatures while still offering something new. It captures contrasts with remarkable finesse: brightness and depth, playfulness and sophistication, sweetness and restraint. More than just another fruity-floral composition, O feels deliberately crafted to leave a lasting impression, both emotionally and aesthetically. As the final letter that completes Rome’s name, it carries a sense of closure - but judging by its unforgettable character, it is unlikely to be the fragrance people remember as an ending.

With O, Pantheon Roma completes a collection that feels truly distinctive in contemporary perfumery - not only because of its artistic vision, but also because of its exceptional quality and longevity.
