Inside EPS Fragrances: Where Art Meets Science in Perfume Manufacturing

Written by Ally Santos

I recently had the extraordinary opportunity to spend two days with the EPS Fragrances, a fragrance manufacturing company, team, led by the legendary Mr. Huseyin Erdogmus, at Cosmoprof Miami. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by their family-oriented spirit and profound passion for the art of perfumery. Sitting down with Mr. Erdogmus felt like a personalized masterclass in fragrance—his insights reflected a lifetime of dedication to quality, innovation, and craftsmanship. It was in these conversations that the EPS credo truly came to fruition : “Fragrance is Life.”

When it comes to the world of perfumery, few names resonate with such timeless heritage and forward-thinking innovation as EPS Fragrances. Founded nearly five decades ago in Turkey by master perfumer Mr. Huseyin Erdogmus, EPS has grown from a modest local enterprise into an internationally renowned fragrance house. Rooted in a deep appreciation for quality raw materials and a passion for creative craftsmanship, EPS Fragrances continues to shape the future of scent through its dedication to research, sustainability, and artful formulation.

The story of EPS Fragrances begins in the vibrant, culturally rich crossroads of Turkey—where East meets West and ancient trade routes have long influenced the perfume industry. In the early days, Mr. Huseyin Erdogmus drew inspiration from Turkey’s storied tradition of aromatic botanicals, essential oils, and artisanal practices. These age-old methods were then refined and elevated through modern perfumery techniques.

Over the past five decades, EPS has preserved this fusion of tradition and innovation, instilling a profound reverence for nature’s gifts into each of its creations. Today, the company’s headquarters in Istanbul stands as a testament to Mr. Erdogmus’s original vision: a place where time-honored expertise converges with cutting-edge technology.

At EPS Fragrances, the fusion of a profound passion for perfumery with a steadfast commitment to ethical practices defines the company’s ethos. This pursuit is not merely about creating fragrances; it’s about weaving an immersive experience that elegantly harmonizes the natural with the scientific. “Our mission is to bridge these two worlds, bringing them together through scents that not only captivate the senses but also honor our artisanal heritage,” explains Ozge Erdogmus- Altinel, Perfumer and Creative Director of EPS Fragrances.

Integrity and authenticity are at the core of EPS Fragrances’ operations. Mr. Erdogmus- Founder and CEO emphasizes, “We commit to honest sourcing and fair partnerships, ensuring each ingredient’s true character is faithfully represented.” This dedication ensures every fragrance embodies the purity and complexity of nature.

Under Mr. Erdogmus’s leadership, EPS Fragrances also champions sustainable innovation. “Adopting new technologies and sustaining the EPS Botanical Garden are critical to our environmental stewardship,” he adds. The garden is not just a source of botanical ingredients but also a testament to the company’s commitment to ecological health.

Moreover, EPS Fragrances thrives on the collective expertise of its team. Mr. Erdogmus believes in empowering every team member, from perfumers to researchers to support staff, to contribute their best. “This fosters a culture of excellence and mutual respect, which is crucial for our collective growth,” he shares.

These core values are integral to every aspect in operations, guiding each decision and inspiring every creation. This steadfast commitment to excellence, sustainability, and community sets EPS Fragrances apart, making their scents a true reflection of innovation and integrity in the world of perfumery.

Next-Generation Leadership: Ozge Erdogmus Altinel

An integral part of EPS’s evolution is Ozge Erdogmus Altinel—the daughter of Mr. Erdogmus. She represents the dynamic synergy of old and new, honoring her father’s heritage while introducing a fresh vision for perfumery. As a professional chemist and perfumer, Ozge brings both scientific expertise and a discerning creative eye to the family business. She also serves as Creative Director, wherein she guides EPS’s artistic vision, ensuring each new collection remains faithful to the company’s DNA of quality, authenticity, and boundary-pushing exploration.

Ozge’s fresh perspective and respect for tradition have already yielded an exciting innovation within the EPS lineup: a novel fragrance category known as ‘Neo Oriental’. This modern reinterpretation of the classic Oriental family infuses traditional notes of spice, amber, and resins with airy, vibrant elements, making the fragrances strikingly contemporary and accessible.

At the heart of EPS’s success lies a dedicated community of perfumers, chemists, botanists, and support staff. Many of the senior perfumers were personally mentored by Mr. Erdogmus, inheriting his commitment to quality and boundary-pushing creativity. This collaborative spirit extends throughout the company. EPS maintains the warmth of a family enterprise, even as it continues expanding its global footprint.

The EPS Botanical Garden

A living laboratory for the study and cultivation of unique flora, the EPS Botanical Garden thrives in a region ideally suited for diverse plant life, advancing both scientific research and responsible resource management. Rare and endangered species such as Echinacea purpurea (commonly known as echinacea or purple coneflower), Tibouchina grandiflora (the large-flowered tibouchina from the Melastomataceae family), and Zinnia—renowned for its vibrant colors and long-lasting blooms—can all be found within its confines. By growing and preserving these botanicals that might otherwise be lost, the Garden ensures a continued supply of extraordinary raw materials. Equally vital are the Garden’s eco-friendly practices, including water conservation measures and organic pest control, reflecting EPS’s commitment to both innovation and environmental stewardship.

Modular Optimization of Perfume Advanced Development (MOPAD) Innovations

Among the most notable strides in EPS’s commitment to modernity is the development of MOPAD, an innovative technology and methodology designed to refine both the extraction and formulation processes. While the finer technical details remain proprietary, MOPAD utilizes cutting-edge extraction techniques to maximize yield from raw materials without compromising their inherent olfactory profile. It also includes precise blending techniques, allowing perfumers to experiment efficiently with micro-adjustments to craft finely-tuned, multilayered scents.
