Commodity’s First-Ever Retail Store Opens in New York City’s SoHo

Commodity, the Modern, American Perfumery known for its innovative approach to fragrance, has officially opened the doors to its first-ever retail store.

Located at 113 Crosby St. in the iconic SoHo district, this flagship marks an exciting milestone for the brand, inviting customers into a space that is distinctly Commodity.

Commodity’s flagship store is more than just a retail experience; it’s a true immersion into the brand’s DNA and Scent Space—a concept uniquely pioneered by Commodity. For the first time, visitors can fully experience Scent Space through interactive displays and thoughtful design elements that guide customers through each scent projection.

“Our New York City flagship store is designed to embody Commodity in every detail,” said Vicken Arslanian, serial brand builder and Commodity Re-Founder. “Our goal was to create a space so on-brand, that even without the products, the space looks distinctly Commodity.”

Even the Crosby Street location was chosen to underscore Commodity’s aesthetic. Off the beaten path of Elizabeth’s “scent row,” which is lined with fragrance and brand boutiques, Crosby Street is a destination with cobblestone streets, art galleries and unique boutiques, offering a character that sets it apart from more tourist-driven areas.

An Immersive Design

Designed by RDK Architect in collaboration with SHED London, the store takes cues from Commodity’s signature product, the Exploration Kit, which provides a full introduction to the brand’s Scent Space concept. Walking into the store, customers first encounter an introduction to Scent Space, leading them along walls where they can shop by fragrance, or into the center of the store, where the “donuts” invite them to explore by Scent Space. These “donuts” are sculpted just like Commodity’s 100ml product sleeves.

Their checkout counter is similarly designed like a 100ml product coming out of its sleeve, creating a unique, interactive experience that brings the fragrance to life in all dimensions.

Beyond aesthetics, the store’s structural elements incorporate Commodity’s iconic grid lines across the walls, ceiling and floor, mirroring the brand’s online store and creating a cohesive journey from digital to physical space. Every corner of the store is designed to communicate that, even without products, the space itself is distinctly and unmistakably Commodity.

As the only physical space in the world where Commodity fans can engage fully with the brand, the flagship offers exclusive perks, including year-round availability of the coveted Editions Collection and the Luxury Candle Collection.

Visitors are treated to complimentary coffee and personalized consultations with fragrance experts to help them navigate the world of Scent Space, enhancing their shopping experience with a layer of education and luxury.
